Under the Sea...

It's always fun to plan a birthday party, especially when it is for a one year old boy and a four year girl.  And with our luck the celebration took place in Huntington Beach, a perfect backdrop to our sea life adventure, complete with mermaids, fish and sand!

Our work was cut out for us as we needed to make sure we properly celebrated the big first birthday milestone while taking into consideration older sisters wishes for an all out Ariel themed party.  Both of us having kids of similar ages made this a super fun planning process.

We started with the search for Ariel and the idea that she would surprise all the kids with her arrival by boat from the sea.  Thankfully we found a wonderful company (http://www.expressiveparties.com/) that hosts the most perfect Ariel...we can't gush about their talents and services - if you ever need a character for a party in Orange County they are the ones to call!  Here are a few pictures of Ariel's arrival by boat:

That's Ariel on the Duffy Boat!

We just love the look on our birthday girls face when she sees Ariel!

Greeting Ariel on the dock...

All of the kids had a blast with Ariel. They played games, did face painting and read stories.  We think the best part was that the adults were able to sit and enjoy a wonderful lunch on the water (catering was provided by Boudin Bakery) while the kids were entertained by the magical mermaid.

Getting ready for face painting...

As is the trend these days, we love to include a candy table. And for this particular party we searched high and low for fun and edible sea creatures. Guests young and old got to help themselves to a table full of edible sea gummies and chocolates.  Of course we also took creative liberty on our custom made signs and decorating - always a great personal touch for any party.  Gummy Skewer anyone?

Yummy, candy table!

Last, there was the amazing cake!  Great Dane bakery in Huntington Beach provided our birthday kids with a custom two tiered white chocolate cake.  It was decorated to match all of the personal touches at the party and they did a fantastic job.

Thank you to our wonderful clients for letting our imaginations run wild for this party!  It was so fun to see it all come together in the end.  Here are a few more inspiration pictures from the event...

Invitations for a Cause

I don't think anyone can disagree…
"tis better to give than receive" ….that giving
WELL,

…just feels GOOD!

Many of us participate in philanthropy in different ways.

We give money to important causes, we donate our time, we participate in fundraising or we donate clothing, food, etc. to different organizations.

WE { aka "the polkadotweekend girls" } have always participated in charity throughout our lives.

And now we are so happy to be able to continue
to GIVE by underwriting the invitation expenses
for many wonderful organizations.

We have been
SO fortunate to work with
amazing groups like National Charity League, The Boys and Girls Club, USC Town and Gown Junior Auxiliary, Hopeful Hearts Foundation, and various church and school organizations.

If you are involved with a philanthropic organization and need invitations for your next fundraiser or event, please consider consulting with Polkadot Weekend.

Visit our website at Polkadot Weekend and click
on the Events/Philanthropy link
to send us the details for your event.

We will not only create a custom invitation that will
"WOW" your guests and generate TONS of excitement for your event  - BUT we will help offset the expense…
which leaves more money for your cause…
and that's really what
giving is all about!

Congratulations to Holly and Rich!

One of the most fun things about our job is getting to know our wedding clients and helping them achieve their vision for wedding invitations.  Some couples know exactly what they want, while others look to us for more creative guidance to help make their important decision.

Holly and Rich are a wonderful couple whom we had the privilege of working with this spring.  They gave  us their color scheme - black, white, vibrant purple - and permission to use our creative license to WOW them.

These types of directives are challenging, but we LOVE it!  Our best invitations are often born this way.

As we did with Holly and Rich, our process to create the right, tailored wedding design begins by listening... letting the couple describe their vision - high-level, detailed, and anything in between - for their special day.

Do their tastes trend toward modern or traditional?... An over the top black tie affair or a low key tropical destination?.. Ribbon accents or added sparkle and bling?

To help Holly and Rich select the right invitation, we provided several samples featuring their chosen palette.  They opted for a beautiful, traditional design with a pop of color.  Our favorite detail of this invite is the inter-laced ribbon - we loved that it added something unique, gave the invitation a pop of color and helped inspire us to accent their names in the matching color hue.  We also used this vibrant color in a monogram seal for the front of the invitation - a simple two layer rectangular seal with the initials H & R - it set the tone for what guests would see inside. The final color details were in the response card and reception card that sat layered in an inner pocket, we pulled the color into the heading of each card and kept everything else clean.

We thank Holly and Rich for sharing a few images of their wedding day with us.  We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are thrilled to have been a part of their wedding memories!

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS!

Sending out an adorable invitation is just the beginning!

Some clever food ideas, a little signage, and some thematic props can go a long way in helping to make the party extra special.

It doesn't cost a lot to print out some cute food labels or matching favor tags. You can find TONS of inspiration online and make it your own.

OR, just like a custom invitation, if you have something in mind, but don't know where to begin…give us a call! We can create signage to go with any party theme!

Whether it's for your child's birthday or your best friend's bridal shower…a little signage goes a long way.

Check out these pics from my son, Matthew's, 5th birthday party and you'll see what I mean!

enjoy! . . . and when planning your next party...
